Dental Implants

What are Dental Implants?

A dental implant is a surgical component that interacts with the bone of the jaw or skull to support a dental prosthesis such as a crown, bridge, denture, or facial prosthesis. Dental implants are a long-term solution to replace missing teeth and restore function and appearance. Implants are typically made of titanium and can fuse with your jawbone, providing a solid foundation for artificial teeth. They are designed to blend naturally with your other teeth, offering a permanent alternative to dentures or bridges.

    Types of Dental Implants:

  • Endosteal Implants - The most common type, placed directly into the jawbone.
  • Subperiosteal Implants - Placed under the gum but on or above the jawbone, often used for patients who lack sufficient jawbone.
  • Zygomatic Implants - An advanced option for those with severe bone loss, placed in the cheekbone.

If you're missing one or more teeth, dental implants can offer a long-term, natural-looking solution. They are the next best thing to your healthy, natural teeth, allowing you to eat, smile, and speak with confidence.

How it works?

1- Implant Placement

The first step is to surgically place the implant into your jawbone. This titanium post will act as the tooth's root, anchoring the replacement tooth securely.

2- Bone Grafting (if needed)

In some cases, patients may need a bone graft to provide enough support for the implant. This involves adding bone material to ensure the implant integrates successfully.

3- Healing and Osseointegration

After the implant is placed, it needs time to bond with the bone through a process called osseointegration. This can take several months, but it ensures a strong, lasting connection.

4- Abutment Placement

Once healing is complete, an abutment (a connector) is placed on top of the implant, which will hold the replacement tooth.

5- Crown Placement

The final step is placing the custom-made crown on the abutment. This will be crafted to match the appearance and function of your natural teeth, completing the dental implant procedure.
