Dental Crowns

What are Dental Crowns?

A dental crown is a tooth-shaped "cap" placed over a damaged or decayed tooth to restore its shape, size, strength, and appearance. Crowns are typically used to protect weak teeth from breaking or to cover dental implants and teeth that have undergone a root canal. They can also improve the overall aesthetic of a tooth that is discolored or misshaped. Dental crowns are made from various materials including metal, porcelain, resin, and ceramic. Each material offers different benefits in terms of durability and appearance.

    Types of Dental Crowns:

  • Porcelain Crowns - A natural-looking option, ideal for front teeth.
  • Metal Crowns - Known for strength and durability, perfect for molars.
  • Ceramic Crowns - Aesthetic and durable, best suited for visible teeth.
  • Temporary Crowns - Used while waiting for permanent crowns to be made.

If you're experiencing significant tooth damage or looking for a cosmetic solution, dental crowns offer a long-lasting solution to enhance both function and appearance.

How it works?

1- Material Selection

Crafted from zirconium dioxide, zirconia crowns exhibit exceptional durability, biocompatibility, and natural aesthetics. Their robust composition ensures long-lasting functionality, while their compatibility with oral tissues minimizes risks. Patients benefit from strong, aesthetically pleasing dental restorations that promote oral health and confidence.

2- Tooth Preparation

The dentist begins by preparing the affected tooth. They remove any decayed or damaged portions, shaping the tooth to accommodate the crown.

3- Impression

An impression of the prepared tooth is taken using dental putty or digital scanning. This impression guides the dental lab in creating a customized zirconia crown.

4- Temporary Crown

While waiting for the permanent crown, a temporary crown (usually made of resin) is placed over the prepared tooth to protect it.

5- Laboratory Fabrication

The dental lab uses computer-aided design and computer-aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM) technology to create the zirconia crown. This ensures precise fit and aesthetics.

6- Bonding

Once ready, the permanent zirconia crown is bonded to the tooth using dental cement. The dentist ensures proper fit, bite alignment, and color match.
